He retired from Pfizer Inc early in 2008 after a 30-year service that encompassed responsibilities in the New York headquarters as well as in his native country, Venezuela. His last position at Pfizer was Vice President, Science and Medical Professional Development within the External Medical Affairs Group. Other previous appointments included: Vice President, Medical and Regulatory Affairs, Japan, Asia, Africa, and Latin America; Director/Team Leader, Medical Operations - Latin America/Canada, and Medical Director, Pfizer Venezuela.

His professional career has focused in fostering clinical research and medical education in the emerging world. He has authored or co-authored more than 80 publications on cardiovascular pharmacology, arterial hypertension and anti-infective therapy. He has co-edited two books on clinical pharmacology. He led the development of Promedicum and Kathedra, web-based portals for medical information and education in Latin America. He also pioneered CME activities in Venezuela. He also has organized the development of clinical research and epidemiological studies across continents.

His medical education was effected in Argentina, with postgraduate training in internal medicine and clinical pharmacology obtained in Argentina and Venezuela, respectively. He was Assistant Professor of Pharmacology at the Universidad Central de Venezuela, Caracas, as well as Associate Director, Clinical Pharmacology Unit, Vargas Hospital, Caracas. He also contributed in the creation of a National System for Surveillance of Bacterial Resistance and the National System for Post-Marketing Drug Surveillance in Venezuela. Academic and governmental institutions have awarded him for his contributions to clinical research in Venezuela.

He served as President of the Venezuelan Society of Pharmacology and the Venezuelan Society of Clinical Pharmacology. He has contributed to the creation of a number of International Medical Societies and has established multiple strategic alliances between medical associations, academic institutions and the pharmaceutical industry. He also serves as a member of the Board for other US based non profit organizations.
